Chanan Pir

The  Chanan  Pir is located between Darewar Fort and Deen Garh Fort. For centuries, Muslims and Non-Muslims honored this place.

The Channa Pir's Mela apprehended every year on seven consecutive Thursdays. The most famous myth of the origin of Channan Pir is about Jamaluddin Surkhposh.

Travelling By Camels

 In the winter, they started traveling from the camels and the travelers from all over the world went to Channan Pir before winter's end.

Festival

For hundreds of years, people have come from all corners of Cholistan and outside to join in the festivities. It is now the most popular festival in southern Punjab, with Hindus and Muslims contributing as one in the acting performances, magic shows, dancing, rides, horse and camel shows, jewelry shopping, and, of course feasting etc.

Most of those who come stay overnight and leave on Friday morning, after a magical night on the sand dunes under the wide open sky. The visitors throw tabbaruk (the sacred sweet) and the persons who pick and taste this tabbaruk are fictional to be privileged in achieving their worldly pursuits.

There is a large tree in the middle of the festival which Cholestan say marks the grave of Channan Peer’s mother. They believe that if a section of red cloth is knotted on a branch, their ‘mantas’ (trades with God) will happen.




Thousands of followers crowded the Cholistan desert on Thursday to seam the celebrations of the annual Channan Pir festival near Yazman, about 40km from at this juncture.

The seven-week ‘mela’, which set in from Feb 10, fascinates followers every Thursday in multitudes. This Thursday was the fifth one, which is considered the peak point of the festival.

Deputy Commissioner Muzaffar Khan Sial acknowledged a local visit while the Lahore High Court chief justice also proclaimed a holiday for the Bahawalpur High Court bench and its enthusiastic secondary courts in the three districts of Bahawalpur separation.

The conclusion of the Punjab government workplaces and confined courts due to the local holiday enabled government workers and lawyers besides the general public to join the mela on Thursday till Friday morning as a watch in the heart of the recompence is a must part of the centenary.

Thousands of followers, counting a large number of women and children, inwards at the site situated in the desert of Cholistan from all parts of the country on busses, wagons, cars, tractor-trolleys, and motorcycles.

Followers come to the centenary place with shelters, chairs, benches and enormous dividends of edibles and gas cylinders (for cooking). The overnight vacation becomes a centenary and families spend time like a sinch.

There was an rare haste of the automobiles on Yazman Road in the city and other routes from Ahmedpur East, Hasilpur and Head Rajkan wandering to Channan Pir. The followers appeal the consecrations of the saint by placing bulges with a tree nearby the catacomb. The followers enter the tomb while melodic and terpsichore to the beat of barrels along with their animals for detriment for the receiving of their prayers.

In the historical, when there were no resources of communiqué, the devotees used to portable on camels, and bullock-carts to triumph the site.

A large number of people established  a food street and shops along with restitution centers and enjoyment parks by isolated companies. These restitution centers remain functioning through the night offering regeneration to the followers and invitees from far pitched areas. Hundreds of slaughterers also make the most of the juncture as they fleece the devotees for the overwhelming of their animal.

The Channan Pir Mela is also well-thought-out a big occasion in the Cholistan desert after the annual Desert Jeep Rally, which also involved the motorists and guides from crossways the country.

During the preceding years, there used to be grievances about the deficiency of drinking water and washrooms at the venue.

However, this year, the local manager of Auqaf, Abbas, told Dawn that his division had made adequate preparations for the supply of water and electricity at the site. He said the Auqaf department auctioned the amenities against Rs7.1 million this year.

He dismissed the imprint of some of the followers that the catacomb income of lakhs of rupees was supposedly misappropriated by the Auqaf staffs.

He also whispered his sector also augmented the number of CCTV cameras on the borderline wall of the site fitted with razon chain and security guards along with by the police establishments at the site for the safety of the followers.

History

The saint was on one of the voyages when the area was ruled by King Sadharan. Since the king did not have a son, the royal couple approached the saint. When the prince was born, his beauty was named as Channan, which means moon the local language.

In the bias of the fortune, even though the child is still a child, the frequency started to trick. By distributing Crown Prince's different beliefs, his political reputation finished unpredictably. The king instantly ordered the execution of his son, but soon after the queen's interference, this sentence was damaged.

The young channan was uninhibited and killed. A few days later, a group of travelers saw that Irma was nourished. After hearing the news of her son, the queen came to the desert and began to live with her son.

From this point of view, this story goes to many assumptions. Some people say that when the killer reached the mount, Channan Pir vanished, others thought that when he grew up he would become a saint.

The legend about Channan Pir is that he was born to the Raja of Jaisalmer, upon his birth he was expected to become a Muslim so the Raja threw him out into desert. The child survived and became a Muslim as predicted. He then converted the Hindu herdsmen into Islam. Every year in the month of February Urs, his death anniversary is celebrated with devotees coming across Pakistan to pay their homage where colorful events such Sufi Dancing, camel dancing and other many captivating events take place.

Likewise, there has been no architectural challenge during the last two centuries.

In addition, the funeral ground is known as Channan Pir.

Hence the flocks come to this place and leave their desires to the branches of trees.

Channan Pir, situated about 65 KM from Bahawalpur, it  is well-known for a Sufi Saint who lies buried here in an open burial chamber enclosed in a green sheet as he wished. The mela which stands his name is celebrated in the Cholistan desert over seven successive Thursdays starting in February every year.
